Positive Energy

Kai Xin Xing Dong focuses on self-stigma, which is when people internalise (and start believing) the negative messages and beliefs others have about mental illness.

Research tells us that self-stigma is a major barrier to recovery, so by reducing it we believe people can increase their positive energy, feel uplifted and improve their mental health.

We have put together a series of seven stories featuring people of Chinese descent who have experienced mental health problems and self-stigma. These stories will be posted in English and Chinese.

The people we talked to are of different ages and backgrounds, but the one thing they have in common is their desire to reduce their self-stigma and boost their positive energy.

Our stories highlight a number of different issues, including the fear of disclosing a diagnosis to a partner, coping with the negative attitudes of family and friends and much more.

By sharing these stories, Kai Xin Xing Dong is encouraging others experiencing mental illness to challenge their self-stigma and move towards positive energy.
